The company Gas Manufacturado recently announced through social media that it will carry out maintenance work at Production Plant No. 1 (Melones), which will result in a temporary interruption of gas service in several municipalities of Havana.
According to the statement, the technical stop will take place from 9:00 PM on Monday, April 21, until 6:00 AM on Tuesday, April 22, and will affect residential customers and entities located in the municipalities of Plaza de la Revolución, Habana Vieja, Centro Habana, Cerro, and Diez de Octubre.
The work —described by the entity as "urgent"— involves replacing the incoming lines to the plant, with the goal of "ensuring the stability of the gas service provided in the capital."
The company apologized for any inconvenience the interruption may cause and did not specify whether similar actions would be taken in other areas of the city.
In March, the company announced another "unavoidable shutdown", this time to carry out "the replacement of the inlet filters for the natural gas accompanying this plant, an operation that will be performed by the Hydrocarbons and Derivatives Transportation Company (EMCOR)."
The post generated several ironic comments: "A fierce competition between Unión Eléctrica (UNE), Aguas de La Habana (AH), the Liquefied Gas Company, and ETECSA to see which of them has the best justification for periodically interrupting their already terrible 'services.' Not to mention the blockade... of course," expressed an internet user.
In the comments section of the post, a large group of liquefied gas customers inquired about when the liquefied gas would arrive, a shortage that has turned into a true drama in Cuba in recent months.
"I'm running out of liquefied gas. Should I light the firewood in the middle of the street?" questioned a woman.
