Cuban activists were attacked this Wednesday in Bilbao while peacefully protesting against the presence of Gabriela Fernández Álvarez, a spokesperson for the Cuban regime and host of the official program Con Filo, at an event organized by groups affiliated with the Havana dictatorship.

The activist Avana de la Torre reported in a video shared on social media that the protesters were targeted by attacks from regime supporters and local residents, who threw eggs at them from balconies near the location of the event.

"They threw eggs at us from above, from the balconies, just as we were shouting slogans for the freedom of Cuba," De la Torre stated in the recording, visibly shaken by what had happened. In the same video, a physical confrontation can also be seen between the activist and an older woman who supports the regime, along with a young man who was accompanying her.

The event was part of Fernández's propaganda tour across 15 cities in Spain, sponsored by the State Movement of Solidarity with Cuba.

The tour has received support from radical left groups, including sectors of the abertzale left, which have historically backed authoritarian regimes like the Cuban one despite their opposition to Francoism, in an ideological paradox that prioritizes political alignment over democratic values.

"They pushed us, shouted at us, and tried to intimidate us. But we will not be silenced," added De la Torre, who has led demonstrations of the Cuban exile community in several Spanish cities.

This new episode of violence adds to the incidents that occurred days earlier in Málaga and Madrid, where Fernández was also confronted by Cuban exiles who reject her role as the spokesperson for the official narrative of the Havana regime.

Fernández's tour, which will conclude on May 21, has sparked outrage among Cubans in exile, who denounce the use of democratic venues in Europe to spread propaganda for a dictatorship that systematically represses its people.
