The coming days will be marked by intense heat and a low occurrence of rainfall across most of Cuban territory, according to official reports from the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) and specialists in the field.

The meteorologist Raydel Ruisánchez warned this Saturday on his Facebook profile that the country will experience days “with high temperatures and little rain,” due to the influence of a well-structured anticyclone throughout all layers of the troposphere.

This phenomenon, combined with low humidity levels, will limit precipitation formation and promote a sustained increase in temperatures, which could exceed 35 degrees Celsius.

This forecast, combined with the intensified energy crisis, suggests restless nights for those who, despite this, will have to continue their routines of going to work or school.

The official forecast for this Sunday, May 18, released by the INSMET Forecast Center on Facebook, confirms that "it will dawn with little cloud cover over much of the national territory."

Although isolated showers and thunderstorms may occur in the eastern region during the afternoon, the rest of the country will continue to see little rainfall.

The minimum temperatures will be between 22 and 25 degrees Celsius, slightly lower in inland areas and higher in coastal zones.

In the afternoon, the maximum temperatures will range between 32 and 35 degrees, with higher readings inland.

Winds will generally be weak and variable, with a presence from the northeast to the east along the northern coast during the afternoon, at speeds ranging from 10 to 25 km/h.

The statement emphasized that there would be little wave activity along all coastlines.

May began with high temperatures across much of the country, and the town of Veguitas, in the province of Granma, reported a last Sunday, INSMET reported.

The heatwaves are leaving increasingly visible marks in Cuba, not only due to record temperatures but also because of their direct impact on the health of the population.

Recent scientific inquiries led by Dr. Luis Lecha Estela, Researcher of Merit at the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment (Citma), have shown an increase in the daily mortality indicator associated with these episodes, an unprecedented trend detected in the country, as reported by the official newspaper Granma.
