Former U.S. President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has reportedly metastasized to his bones, his office announced in a statement this Sunday.
"Last week, President Joe Biden was visited by a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone," the statement reads.
A doctor who saw the 82-year-old former president last Friday after he presented urinary symptoms issued the diagnosis.
The statement informs that Biden and his family are evaluating treatment options.
Additionally, it is noted that cancer is hormone-sensitive, which could indicate that it may be managed with treatment.
Biden, the oldest sitting president of the United States to date, was already suffering from age-related conditions such as obstructive sleep apnea, which required him to sleep with a machine.
He also suffers from peripheral neuropathy and moderate to severe spondylosis, conditions that cause him pain and stiffness in his movements.
