Lisbeth Fernández represents Pinar del Río in the Miss Universe Cuba 2025 competition and has garnered attention not only for her charisma and beauty but also for proudly embracing her Christian faith in a space traditionally distant from religious values. With a powerful message of reconciliation between spirituality and aesthetics, she becomes the first openly Christian Cuban contestant to participate in such a pageant.
The young woman, of Baptist faith, shared her experiences and reflections on the program “La mesa caliente” from Telemundo, where she spoke openly about the prejudices she has faced since childhood from conservative sectors within Christianity.
“This has been a really interesting experience for me because I have grown up with the preconceived notion that a Christian woman who loves God cannot wear a swimsuit or model. I come from a quite conservative denomination, I am Baptist, but I have learned that it is not so much about what one wears but rather why one wears it, and the context of things is something that should be taken into account,” she expressed.
Fernández explained that his participation in the contest has also been a process of family and religious dialogue: “This is something I had to discuss with my parents because they are very conservative (...) At first, it was difficult for them to accept it, but they eventually understood (...) My entire church is supporting me a lot, they are keeping an eye on the voting and are very active on social media.”
From their perspective, beauty pageants do not contradict Christian values when understood from a different viewpoint: "Beauty contests are culturally accepted, and both Christians and non-Christians sit down to watch, consume, and enjoy them. In that context, the swimsuit is not worn out of lust but to showcase a woman who has taken care of her body, who is healthy, and who is disciplined."
Lisbeth, with a fresh perspective and unafraid to challenge norms, wants to be a voice of change within traditional Christianity: “Beauty was created by God; I feel that religious people demonize everything, they have demonized dance, music, beauty, so many things. I want to use my candidacy to convey this message that you can be beautiful and love God. I want to show that beauty and faith go hand in hand.”
With her participation, Lisbeth Fernández is not only seeking a crown but also paving the way for a generation of young believers who wish to live their spirituality without sacrificing their individuality or their dreams.
