A short circuit caused by an electrical drain in the warehouse area was the reason for the fire that occurred on June 3 at the "José Francisco Costa Velázquez" wine factory in Guanajay, Artemisa province.
The place has been rented for over a year to the self-employed worker Héctor Manuel López.
El Mayor Yoan Rodríguez Martínez, Expert in Damage, Explosion, and Fires, and in charge of the investigation, explained to El Artemiseño that “the wiring of the premises dates back to its foundation, as does the electricity meter, and both were in very poor condition.”

He added, moreover, that “both were near the downspout, a very volatile material in the event of a fire, hence its rapid spread.”
Rodríguez Martínez specified that “the fire started from the inside out and impacted the infrastructure of the warehouse."
They were affected "196 camera panels, about 400 personal mattresses, and around 20 cameras, plus 100 bags of filling and all the machinery equipment for mattress manufacturing."
It is presumed that the fire started at 7:55 p.m. on Tuesday (local time).
To extinguish it, several techniques were employed, including two firefighting tankers and another two water tanks, as detailed by the expert.
Previously, El Artemiseño had reported that firefighters, units from the Ministry of the Interior, mobile water tanks, as well as resources from Aguas Mariel, a company operating in the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM), were dispatched to the site.
