The Cuban community comes together once again in a gesture of solidarity, this time for the life of Gio Rodríguez, a young singer from Holguín who is struggling between life and hope in a hospital in the United States after suffering a severe heart attack.
Gio, whose real name is Jorge Félix Rodríguez and a former member of the musical group Kuban Times, recently suffered a heart attack accompanied by ventricular thrombosis and complicated pneumonia that nearly took his life, as reported on social media by Carlos Azahares, who is close to the artist.
Although Gio managed to survive, the aftereffects have been severe, as he suffers from heart failure and his recovery is uncertain, while his family faces an overwhelming financial burden amidst this drama.
From Sarasota, Florida, where he currently resides, an urgent call has been made to support this Cuban artist, known for his powerful voice and charisma on stage.
Today, unfortunately, Gio cannot sing or work, and the family is doing everything possible to cover the high medical and medication expenses that his situation requires.
“Not only is he an incredible artist, he is a wonderful person, a noble and humble being. Those of us who know him can attest to that. Today he may not be able to sing, but he can still dream,” wrote Azahares in his heartfelt post.
Born in Holguín and trained at the José María Ochoa Conservatory of Music, Gio showed an exceptional talent for singing and guitar from a young age, as noted in his personal blog.
Inspired by artists like Andrea Bocelli, he specialized in lyric singing for four years. His career took off strongly in Cuba, and in addition to Kuban Times, he joined the group Gardi, with which he made his international debut by settling in Cancun, Mexico.
Later, he settled in the United States, where he has continued his journey as a solo artist with a repertoire that spans from pop opera to other contemporary genres, captivating audiences and winning hearts.
The call is to the Cuban community, to fellow musicians, friends, and anyone who may be willing to lend a hand, donate what they can, or simply share the message. Financial support can be sent via Zelle to the email giorodriguezmusic@gmail.com.
"It's sad this tragedy has struck a person so young, with so much talent and a bright future ahead. Let us help ensure that their voice and heart do not fade away," concludes the post.
