Ten people are hospitalized at the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Provincial Hospital, following the mass accident that occurred early this Sunday on the Bayamo–Las Tunas highway in Granma Province.
Of the hospitalized patients, four are in severe condition and six are under medical observation, including a 10-year-old girl.
The update was provided to the official press by Yudelkis Ortiz Barceló, First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba in Granma, who stated that all the injured are receiving specialized care at the health center in Bayamo.
"Everyone remains under the diligent care of our healthcare staff," said the official, confirming that there are 16 patients who have been discharged and mostly transferred to Santiago de Cuba.
Provincial and national authorities have sent messages of condolences to the families of the deceased. Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz urged Cuban drivers to "exercise extra caution on the road."
The tragic accident resulted in two fatalities and 27 injured individuals. It occurred shortly after 1:00 a.m. at kilometer 727 of the Bayamo–Las Tunas road, when a bus rented by the National Center for Scientific Research (CNIC) of BioCubaFarma, traveling from Havana to Santiago de Cuba, lost control and struck a fixed obstacle.
One of the victims died at the scene, while the other passed away in the hospital after being rushed there along with the other injured individuals.
Doctor Adonis Frómeta Guerra, the hospital's general director, confirmed that six patients required surgery and noted that the center has the medical staff and necessary resources for specialized care.

On social media, she recounted how, amidst the chaos and darkness, she only thought of saving her daughter. “It was imminent that this would happen,” she wrote, also denouncing reckless driving prior to the impact.
