The journalist Enrique Pérez Fumero remains in serious, nearly critical condition after suffering a violent attack in Santiago de Cuba several days ago.

Currently, according to reported by reporter Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, he remains hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the “Saturnino Lora” Provincial Hospital, under strict medical measures and isolation, as reported by close family members.

Family sources revealed that Enrique has undergone several transfusions due to a severe cerebral hemorrhage and is being fed through a tube.

He still cannot receive regular visits, not even from his mother, Teresa Fumero, who can only see him once a day and through a glass, with no possibility of physical or verbal contact.

“The prognosis is uncertain. They are waiting for the bleeding to be controlled and for his hemoglobin levels to rise before he can be operated on again. Until then, they must wait for 3 to 5 days,” a family member stated.

Since his admission, Enrique was moved from intermediate care to intensive care after undergoing surgery, following his transfer from Las Tunas, where he had a CT scan performed.

The family also expressed concern about the secrecy surrounding both the medical care and the investigation of the attack.

"We absolutely know nothing about that. We are just waiting. And with a lot of impatience." They are also unsure if the family is being monitored

Some acquaintances question whether the isolation is due to medical protocols or a deliberate attempt to prevent the dissemination of the patient's true condition.

Despite the official silence, the family expressed gratitude for the support received both domestically and internationally.

"Many people, from Cuba and around the world, are supporting the cause. Contributing what they can: their little grain of sand or their large grain of sand. And we are very grateful for that," they noted.

"But they also issued a warning: 'Today it's me... but tomorrow it could be you. Today it's my blood on the streets of Santiago, but tomorrow it could be yours.'"

From various sectors of civil society, demands continue for answers: a public and credible investigation, official information regarding the events, protection for the journalist's family, and humane conditions in his medical care.
