No changes. This is how the informal currency market in Cuba has been in recent hours.

After several days of fluctuating sales rates for the dollar, euro, and the freely convertible currency (MLC), a sense of calm is observed on August 14th.

This Thursday, both the dollar and the U.S. currency are solidifying the values they reached earlier this week: the European currency remains at 450 CUP and the dollar at 400, record figures in both cases.

In the case of the MLC, it remains at 200 CUP, a price reached yesterday, which is ultimately seen as yet another failure of the Cuban regime's economic policies.

Exchange Rate Evolution

"It is neither a currency nor, much less, something that we could 'freely convert'. It was the aborted monstrosity of the late CUC, and it is nothing more than the remittance dollar that GAESA converts into a bond, useful only for purchasing very little and in certain state-run stores controlled by the military, as defined this week by Efraín González in an analysis article for Cubanet."

Meanwhile, the Cuban government continues to provide no hints about the arrival of changes it anticipated a few weeks ago.

In July, Manuel Marrero announced transformations in the official exchange market in Cuba, changes that -as he indicated- are expected to take place in the second half of the year.

However, for the moment, nothing has been finalized.
