The tattoo artist and content creator, Roma, known on social media as @es_roma_, launched a series of videos detailing how her renowned tattoo studio in Havana came to be, one of the most popular in the Cuban capital.
In the first chapter, Roma is presented as "the owner of one of the best tattoo studios in Cuba" and candidly recounts the beginnings of her career, characterized by improvisation, a scarcity of resources, and unwavering determination.
"It was January 2021, I was in quarantine and without knowledge or resources, I began to establish what is now the story of my life," says the young woman as she displays images of her first works with the tattoo machine.
Roma recalls that she got her first tattoo without any prior experience. Then came several attempts, where the lack of information and financial limitations could not dampen her desire to learn.
The young woman is especially grateful to a person who crossed her path and taught her the basic theory of tattooing. From that moment on, she decided to continue on her own from home, with the support of her mother, who lent her 40 CUC and gave her a room in their home to set up her first "work corner."
"With that help, I bought my first little things. The machine would break down within minutes, but I persisted. That was almost all I had because the money didn't stretch for anything more," Roma recounts.
In a short time, she got her first large tattoo, and six months later, she had her first professional opportunity at a studio that required experience. It was an important step for her career. She then returned to working independently until she reached the place where she met the Línea y 8 studio, a site that marked a turning point in her journey.
The series of videos promises to continue documenting each stage of her professional growth, which has been driven by consistency, personal effort, and self-confidence.
His story shows that the value of entrepreneurship in Cuba stems from determination. Roma learned as he went along, faced obstacles, and today stands out in his art, having tattooed prominent figures of Cuban culture, such as the late singer El Tiger.
