A Cuban resident in Italy shared on social media the challenging experience she faced while trying to renew her passport at the Cuban embassy in Rome.

According to a video posted on TikTok, the process was marked by bureaucratic hurdles and obstacles in the payment system.

The young woman explained that after submitting all the required documentation —including her birth certificate and expired passport— she was informed at the diplomatic office that she could not pay the 185 euros for the procedure in cash or with Visa, Mastercard, or American Express cards.

"They told me they only accepted a banker's check issued by the Italian post," she recounted indignantly. This forced her to take a taxi to a post office, where she had to go through lengthy procedures before rushing back to the embassy to avoid losing the day.

Finally, he was able to submit the documentation and undergo the photo and fingerprinting, but he was warned that the passport could take between 40 days and three months to be ready. In the meantime, he cannot travel outside of Italy, even in the case of a family emergency.

"If something happens and someone in my family dies, I wouldn't be able to leave because they only allow me to travel with a Cuban passport," lamented the migrant, who said she feels frustrated and without options.

His testimony reflects the challenges many Cubans abroad face when dealing with consular procedures, particularly regarding passports, which are considered among the most expensive and restrictive in the world.
