According to the data published by the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI) for August 2025, the price of a pound of onions in Cuba varies significantly from one province to another, with notable differences between the minimum and maximum values.
In the west, in Pinar del Río, the price per pound reaches a maximum of 772.20 pesos and a minimum of 534.12. In Havana, the range goes from 212.48 to 500 pesos, while in Artemisa, it fluctuates between 300 and 450 pesos. San José reports one of the lowest prices in the country, ranging from 280 to 340 pesos.
In the central-western region, Matanzas shows values ranging from 234.37 to 500 pesos, while in Cienfuegos, the price per pound varies between 518.51 and 744.18. In Villa Clara, specifically in Santa Clara, the prices are among the highest: from 1,170 to 1,320 pesos. Sancti Spíritus also presents high figures, with a minimum of 785 and a maximum of 880 pesos.
Towards the central-eastern region, in Ciego de Ávila, the pound fluctuates between 150 and 300 pesos, while in Camagüey it is the most expensive on the entire island, with a minimum of 1,000 pesos and a maximum of 1,375. In Las Tunas, the range is more moderate, from 300 to 700 pesos.
In the east, Holguín records values between 230 and 400 pesos; in Bayamo, between 550 and 600 pesos; in Santiago de Cuba, prices range from 160 to 350 pesos; and in Guantánamo, they are between 250 and 300 pesos.
In summary, the highest prices for a pound of onions in August 2025 were recorded in Camagüey and Santa Clara, exceeding 1,000 pesos, while the lowest prices were in Ciego de Ávila, Santiago de Cuba, and San José, where in some cases the minimum value did not exceed 160 to 280 pesos.
