A Cuban resident in Spain shared a bitter experience on TikTok after returning a lost mobile phone at the La Vaguada shopping center in Madrid.

According to a video that has garnered thousands of views, he found the device in a store and decided to return it to its owners, a couple of fellow nationals who work at that establishment.

"I just experienced one of the biggest disappointments of my life. I'm in a shopping mall called La Vaguada, and I find a phone in a store. To my bad luck, who were the owners of the phone? A couple of Cubans who work in that store. As far as I know, his name is Aldo," he explained.

The young man stated that, instead of appreciating the gesture, the owners of the phone reacted with annoyance and distrust. “I’m going to return the phone to them, and they asked me in a really rude manner what I was supposed to do, which was to return it. And I said: don’t you see that I’m giving it back to you? Sir, I tell you… because he thought, of course, that all Cubans are criminals and thieves. That’s the negative part of us, that not all of us are the same. I return the phone, and on top of that, I’m upset; I can’t even explain it,” he recounted, visibly disappointed.

His testimony sparked debate among social media users, many of whom congratulated him for his honesty and lamented the couple's reaction, while others suggested that the situation may have been due to surprise or the nervousness of having misplaced the device.

The anecdote reflects the tensions and prejudices that sometimes arise within the Cuban community abroad.
