The United States government clarified on Wednesday that the registration period for the 2027 Visa Lottery is not yet open, following the spread of multiple false posts on the internet and social media regarding its supposed activation.

According to a statement from the State Department through its official X account, Travel - State Dept, there are "fraudulent claims" stating that enrollment in the program is already available or offering services to increase the chances of being selected.

"The application period for the Diversity Visa (DV) 2027 is not open at this time," the agency noted.

“We are aware of reports regarding fraudulent claims that registration for the DV-2027 is open, and of individuals and services falsely claiming they can increase your chances of being selected. This is not true,” warned the statement from the Department of State, which added that the official registration dates and any potential changes to the process will be announced soon.

The warning comes after several websites and informal facilitators promoted alleged "offers" to enroll in the program.

The State Department reiterated that any false solicitation could be related to fraud attempts and reminded that registration for the Visa Lottery is completely free.

Each fiscal year, the United States approves up to 55,000 permanent residency visas —known as green cards— through the DV Lottery, aimed at citizens from countries with low immigration rates to the North American country.

In the previous announcement, Cubans were excluded from the process due to the immigration benefits provided by the Biden administration, such as the humanitarian parole program, which now allows island citizens to legally enter the country under specific conditions.

Under the current government of Donald Trump, new measures have been proposed to strengthen the security of the lottery, including the requirement to present a scanned passport at the time of registration, in order to prevent fraud, identity forgery, and sham marriages to access immigration benefits.

The State Department emphasized that all official information about the DV-2027 program will be published exclusively through its verified channels and on the website dvprogram.state.gov, urging interested parties to be wary of any intermediary or website that requests money for participation.
