The businessman and magnate Elon Musk made headlines again with his statements during an interview in which he attacked communism and openly praised Cubans in the United States, whom he referred to as "the most fierce capitalists in America."
During the conversation on the podcast of comedian Joe Rogan, the host asked Musk, “Who are the most rabid capitalists in America?” to which the owner of Tesla, X (Twitter), and SpaceX responded without hesitation: “The damn Cubans.”
In the exchange, amid laughter, Musk stated that the immigrants from the island are the people with the most capitalist awareness in the country, in a moment that went viral on social media, especially among the Cuban-American community.
The driver commented that Cubans “don't want to hear any crap about socialism” because “they already know perfectly well what that is in reality.”
Musk nodded and added: “It is extreme government oppression,” and continued praising the Cubans who have contributed to the growth of South Florida: “I don’t know how they did it, but they succeeded. No one escapes to Cuba.”
The billionaire took the opportunity to make a remark about the difference between communist regimes and free countries: “I have always wondered why boats only come from Cuba to Florida and not the other way around,” he said.
If communism were that good, there would be boats sailing in the opposite direction, but that never happens, he added.
Musk also compared the situation in Cuba to the historical case of Berlin during the Cold War: “An obvious way to determine which ideology is the bad one is to see who has to build walls to keep their people confined,” he explained.
"The wall was built by the communists of East Berlin, not those from West Berlin", he stated.
The businessman concluded that the communist societies are “a nightmare of control and repression,” and joked that “if the cities run by socialists continue as they are, they will soon have to build walls to prevent people from leaving.”
The South African billionaire, known for his direct and provocative style, has repeatedly expressed his opposition to collectivist ideologies and his support for individual freedom and the market economy, principles that, according to him, “define the essence of the United States.”
The excerpt from the interview has already garnered millions of views and has become one of the most talked-about topics among Cubans in exile, who appreciate Musk's acknowledgment of their entrepreneurial spirit and anti-communism.
The statements arise following the recent elections where the young Democrat Zohran Mamdani was elected mayor of New York.
On Wednesday, President Donald Trump labeled him a "communist"; however, he stated that he would be willing to "help a little."
