The United States assumed the presidency of the Group of Twenty (G20) this Monday, with a commitment to return the forum to its original focus on economic growth and prosperity, as reported by the State Department in an official statement.

"President Trump will lead a phase in which the G20 will return to its central mission of promoting economic growth and prosperity to achieve concrete results," notes the statement released by U.S. diplomacy.

The document outlines three priorities for the period that Washington will lead: unlocking economic prosperity by reducing regulatory burdens, strengthening secure and affordable energy supply chains, and promoting new technologies and innovations that enhance global productivity.

The White House emphasized that this presidency will mark a phase of reforms aimed at achieving tangible results, in contrast to the lack of consensus that characterized previous years in the bloc.

The 2026 G20 Leaders' Summit will be held in Miami, Florida, one of the most representative cities in the country, during the year that the United States commemorates the 250th anniversary of its independence.

The G20 brings together the major developed and emerging economies of the world, responsible for more than 80% of global GDP.

The U.S. presidency comes in a context of trade tensions and international energy challenges that, according to Washington, require "decisive action and results-oriented cooperation."

Recently, the mayor of Miami, Francis Suárez, expressed his gratitude to President Donald Trump after the announcement that the city will host the next G-20 summit, asserting that the city “is ready” to welcome world leaders.

The G20 Summit of 2026 will take place on December 14 and 15 at Trump National Doral, a resort and golf complex located in Miami, Florida.

It will be the first time that the United States hosts the forum in that city, chosen for its economic symbolism and its role as a bridge between America and the rest of the world.

The organization is already working on the logistics and security of the event, which will bring together leaders from the world's major economies in the year marking the 250th anniversary of American independence.
