Hundreds of Cubans gathered this Saturday in front of the Hotel Habana Libre in Havana, following the spread of a rumor on social media about a supposed distribution of 1,100 dollars per person, promoted by the Spanish Ignacio Giménez.
From the early hours of the morning, long lines formed under the entrance of the central hotel, where men and women patiently awaited the arrival of "teams identified by yellow pullovers" that never appeared.

The scene, captured on video, shows a crowd of people conversing with each other, clearly in confusion. Some residents watched from the sidewalk as the crowd grew out of control, while traffic slowed down on the busy 23rd Avenue.
A similar situation occurred in Santiago de Cuba, where dozens of citizens gathered at the Hotel Santiago driven by the same false promise. Independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta reported that the government deployed police patrols to disperse the people.
The Ministry of Tourism immediately denied the information, describing it as completely false. However, the rumor had already spread through Facebook and WhatsApp groups.
The incident reflects the desperation and vulnerability of Cubans, caught between scarcity and misinformation, where any hope for economic assistance can trigger collective chaos.
