Marta Perdomo Benítez, mother of political prisoners Jorge and Nadir Martín Perdomo, shared on social media a letter written by one of her sons from the prison where he is serving an unjust sentence for participating in the protests on July 11, 2021 in San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque.

Today is a very sad day for me because the sky is very gray. I have thought a lot before doing this, because there were other priorities, like the case of our brother Yosvani Rosell García, also imprisoned since 11J, on a hunger strike for the freedom of all political prisoners, wrote Marta, who has become one of the strongest voices against repression in Cuba.

The mother of the political prisoner explained that she decided to share the words of the young man because “messages like these cannot be overlooked” and because the world must know “how firm and sorrowful this great injustice is” for the young man.

The woman has two sons who have been imprisoned since the protests and has been a victim of repression for speaking out in their defense.

Below, CiberCuba fully reproduces the letter written from prison by Nadir Martín Perdomo, a testament of faith, love, and resilience in the face of injustice.

Letter from Prison

By Nadir Martín Perdomo

Today is one of those many days when the sky turns gray. I look around and I don’t see them, and I miss those moments when we used to have our cups of coffee at three in the afternoon, and everyone was there: sharing stories, making jokes, or debating any topic. Marta's house was always full: neighbors, friends, family… but always together, always united.

Hoy, Just like four years ago, I only see bars and I don't see you all, mi familia.

Although to this day I can't understand why we have suffered so much, all we can do is wait to see His will fulfilled.

Mom, Dad, Greisy, Salet, Samir: I am the happiest man on this planet for having you in my life. I tell you that my brother and I are very, very lucky to have the treasure that is you.

También lo extraño mucho a él, a mi hermano. But, despite the distance, I know that he is also strong and, like me, stands firm, proud to be part of a just cause, a worthy cause, knowing that the freedom of this country is coming soon. That would be our greatest reward.

La historia ha demostrado que el mal nunca gana. Mientras tanto, we have each other, and no one can stand against that. Nothing can overcome love, family, and justice.

We have had to endure torture, mistreatment, distance, persecution, and even witness how fear has affected friends and family. But I know that this will come to an end, and smiles will once again take center stage.

Mom and Dad, to you who instilled in me the values of justice and truth. My brother, to you who are my strength and guide. Greisy, to you who are my backbone, the support of my life. Salet and Samir, to you who are my main reason for living. And to God, for having created you.

With pride: Homeland and Life.
