The former Major League player Alexei Ramírez is part of Cuba's preliminary roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, confirmed journalist Francys Romero on social media.

Ramírez, 44 years old, has a career spanning nine seasons in MLB, where he primarily played as a shortstop and second baseman, noted for his defensive versatility and offensive contribution.

The Cuban baseball player, currently with the Pinar del Río team in the National Series, already knows what it is like to compete in a World Classic. He was part of the island's team in the first World Baseball Classic in 2006, held in Puerto Rico, when he was just 24 years old. If his permanent inclusion is finalized, he would return to Puerto Rican soil 20 years later, in one of the most remarkable stories of the tournament.

The possible presence of Ramírez on the Cuban roster would bring international experience and leadership to a team that is looking to improve its results after modest performances in recent editions of the tournament.

For the moment, the Cuban Baseball Federation has not officially released the final roster, but the inclusion of the former major leaguer in the preliminary list is already creating excitement among fans.
