The Cuban Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, reiterated this Thursday that Cubans must emerge from the crisis through their own efforts, accomplishing more with fewer resources.
"At the Provincial Council of Santiago de Cuba, we reflect on how much we can achieve, even under very difficult conditions. Cubans always rise to the occasion," said Marrero on X.
The official referenced the dictator Fidel Castro to reiterate that the people have a mission: "To emancipate ourselves through our own efforts."
The message is a reiteration of the official narrative that seeks to hold the population accountable for the crisis, while the government maintains an inefficient and centralized system for resource management.
In his remarks, Marrero called for "doing more, even under difficult conditions," without acknowledging the structural causes of the economic collapse.
His words come just a few days after urging communist militants to undertake a "radical change in mindset" to confront the "wartime economy" that, he claims, Cuba is experiencing.
However, the contrast between the rhetoric and reality—blackouts, shortages, and misery—reveals the exhaustion of a leadership that insists on motivating the people with slogans while the country continues on the path to extreme poverty.
