The University of Pinar del Río "Hermanos Saíz Montes de Oca" is going through one of its biggest public crises following the circulation on social media of an intimate video recorded within the campus facilities.

The material, which went viral within hours, sparked an immediate reaction from the center's administration, which announced the permanent expulsion of those involved from the higher education system.

In an official statement shared on Facebook, the rector of the institution, Dr. C. Yorki Mayor Hernández, confirmed that the individuals involved were removed from their positions "firmly and immediately," as the actions constituted a severe violation of professional ethics, moral integrity, and the dignity that should characterize the university faculty.

The note emphasizes that the actions are "clearly incompatible with the formative and exemplary role of a teacher."

The rector stated that the University of Pinar del Río will not allow "isolated and irresponsible actions to tarnish the honorable work" of the majority of its professors and researchers, emphasizing that the institutional priority is to ensure a safe and trusting environment for students.

The controversy erupted after a compromising audiovisual material began circulating, which many people on the internet agree depicts an intimate homosexual relationship between two men at the university.

The independent communicator Yosmany Mayeta Labrada revealed on Facebook that it allegedly involves Alie Pérez Véliz, a high-ranking academic official connected to the Faculty of Humanities, along with another professor from the Law department.

The video is believed to have been recorded by those involved in a university classroom, in front of an image of Fidel Castro and among the computers in the center.

According to testimonies cited by Mayeta Labrada, the official in question had held important positions within the academic structure.

Former students and sources related to the university stated that rumors about inappropriate behavior within the department had been circulating for months, and that in the past year, disciplinary separations of other professors had already occurred due to similar situations.

An anonymous source consulted by the communicator stated: "I feel sorry for his children, but he was an uncomfortable person within the University," reflecting the personal and professional impact that the case has had within the academic community.

The rector's statement does not mention names, but it confirms that internal protocols and regulations were followed to proceed with the definitive removal from their positions and the educational system of those involved.

The university administration emphasized that the decision is aimed at preserving public trust and maintaining the tranquility of the student community.

The case has generated intense debate on social media, where many users are questioning not only the behavior of the professors but also the control and supervision mechanisms within Cuban universities.

Others point out the contradiction between the official discourse on revolutionary values and morality, and the reality that comes to light in situations like this.

From an institutional perspective, the scandal once again highlights the urgent need for clear action protocols, transparency, and effective protection of the educational environment, especially regarding incidents that occur in classrooms, which should be places of learning rather than settings for such behavior.

Meanwhile, the University of Pinar del Río is trying to contain the damage to its public image, reiterating its commitment to ethics, the exemplary nature of its faculty, and the well-being of its students, amid a controversy that continues to generate national repercussions.
