The Frank País García International Airport in Holguín received its fourth shipment of humanitarian aid from the United States on Friday to assist families affected by Hurricane Melissa in the Diocese of Bayamo-Manzanillo.
The air shipment transported 588 food kits and 585 hygiene kits, donated by the American people and accompanied by the priests of the Archdiocese of Miami Esney Muñoz and Elvis Antonio González.
The aid will be allocated to communities in the municipality of Cauto Cristo, in the province of Granma, specified the Communication team of the organization Cáritas Cuba, which is part of the Catholic Church.
According to the source, the distribution will be carried out gradually through a network made up of volunteers, parish teams, diocesan structures, and local religious orders.
The selection of beneficiaries is based on vulnerability criteria, with priority given to single mothers with young children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and individuals with reduced or no mobility.
The organization stated that with this new delivery, it continues to strengthen its humanitarian response in the eastern part of the country and support affected families, with an emphasis on protecting the dignity of the most vulnerable individuals.
This fourth flight continues a series of shipments initiated from the state of Florida after Hurricane Melissa passed through.
On Wednesday, the international airport of Santiago de Cuba received the third delivery, consisting of 648 food kits and 510 hygiene kits, aimed at the affected communities in that province and accompanied by representatives from the Archdiocese of Miami and Catholic Relief Services.
The first material assistance arrived on January 14 at Holguín airport, with 528 food kits and 660 hygiene kits, including supplies for water treatment, intended for severely affected communities such as Cacocum.
A second flight arrived on January 16 in Santiago de Cuba with similar cargo, distributed among several dioceses in the east.
In November, the administration of President Donald Trump announced the allocation of three million dollars in humanitarian aid for the Cubans affected by Hurricane Melissa, which severely impacted several eastern provinces on October 28.
