Bad Bunny made history this Sunday by becoming the first artist to win the Grammy for Album of the Year with a completely Spanish-language album. His work “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS” was recognized as the best of 2026 at a gala held in Los Angeles, marked by emotion, politics, and the unstoppable power of Latin music.

The 31-year-old Puerto Rican received the award from Harry Styles and, visibly moved, delivered one of the most emotional speeches of the night. “Puerto Rico, believe me when I say we are much bigger than 100x35. Thank you, mom, for bringing me into this world in Puerto Rico.” he said through tears, before dedicating the award “to all the people who had to leave their country to pursue their dreams.”

Bad Bunny's victory marks a turning point in Grammy history. Never before has an album in Spanish achieved the highest honor from the Recording Academy. This achievement solidifies the artist as a global figure who has transformed the music landscape, breaking down barriers of language, genre, and style since his beginnings in Latin trap.

Before receiving the night's top award, the Puerto Rican artist also took home the Grammys for Best Urban Music Album and Best Global Music Performance for his song "EoO". It was during that initial appearance that he ignited the gala with a political speech that has already gone viral: “Before thanking God, I want to say: out with ICE. We are not savages, we are not animals, we are not aliens; we are human beings.” His words sparked a standing ovation and set the tone for a ceremony filled with messages against Donald Trump's immigration policies.

Alongside her, artists such as Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, and Kendrick Lamar also raised their voices from the stage. Eilish, winner of Song of the Year for "Wildflower," said, "No one is illegal on stolen land... screw ICE." Meanwhile, Lamar became the most awarded rapper in history, reaching 27 Grammy Awards, demonstrating that the gala not only celebrated music but also stances.

The night concluded with Bad Bunny as the absolute star and a symbol of a new era for Spanish-language music. Just a week after headlining the Super Bowl halftime show, the Puerto Rican artist leaves the Grammys with three awards.
