The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, described the sanctions imposed by the United States on countries that sell oil to Cuba as unjust this Monday and stated that her government is working to resume shipments of crude oil to the Island through diplomacy.
During her morning press conference, Sheinbaum stated that sanctions are not justified because, as she argued, they ultimately harm the people, even when one may agree or disagree with the Cuban government regime.
The president indicated that Mexico will continue to take diplomatic actions to restore the oil shipment, emphasizing that a people cannot be choked in that way through economic sanctions.
Sheinbaum called for such measures not to be implemented and reiterated that her stance is to support the Cuban people, insisting that political differences with the regime should not translate into punishments for the population.
During her press conference on Monday, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, stated that her government will continue to send humanitarian aid to Cuba and described it as very unfair for the United States to impose tariffs on countries that export oil to the island, as she believes these measures directly affect the population, reported EFE.
Sheinbaum stated that Mexico will continue to support the Cuban people and pointed out that a first shipment of humanitarian aid to the island has already been made, primarily consisting of food, amid tensions over the measures announced by Washington against countries that trade oil with Havana.
The president stated that assistance will continue in the form of humanitarian aid and emphasized the solidarity of Mexico's foreign policy, while reiterating her rejection of sanctions that, she said, impact the population and not necessarily the Cuban authorities.
Sheinbaum also indicated that her government is maintaining diplomatic efforts to resume the shipment of hydrocarbons and to express its disagreement in various international forums, while seeking to prevent tariffs from being imposed on Mexico for the supply of oil to Cuba.
According to information from the EFE agency, Pemex sent crude oil to the island in 2025 for a , although in recent days Mexico has acknowledged that it has slowed those shipments to avoid trade sanctions, while still committing to humanitarian aid shipments.
