The United States Secret Service shot and killed an armed man who illegally entered the security perimeter of Mar-a-Lago, the residence of President Donald Trump in Florida, early on Sunday morning.
According to the agency EFE, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. (local time), when agents detected an unauthorized entry at the property of the Republican president, located in Palm Beach.
The official statement clarified that at the time of the events, there was no one under the direct protection of the Secret Service at the location, indicating that President Trump was not at the residence.
According to the statement shared on social media by the authorities, the individual—a young man around 20 years old—was found at the north gate of Mar-a-Lago with what appeared to be a firearm and a canister of fuel.
After being confronted by Secret Service agents and officers from the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office, an exchange of gunfire occurred in which the suspect was killed.
Authorities have not revealed the identity of the deceased and stated that it will not be disclosed until their family has been officially notified.
The statement emphasized that no law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
The case is under investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of what occurred. As part of the usual protocol, the officers involved in the use of lethal force have been placed on temporary administrative leave while the inquiries proceed.
