Lionel Messi receives between 70 and 80 million dollars a year for his contract with Inter Miami, a figure that includes salary, participation rights, and commercial compensations associated with his presence at the club.
Según Bloomberg Línea, la cifra fue confirmada por el propietario del equipo, Jorge Mas, quien explicó que el acuerdo con el futbolista argentino contempla varios componentes económicos más allá del salario base.
Messi, 38 years old, signed a new contract last year for three seasons with the Major League Soccer (MLS) club, which would keep him at Inter Miami until he is 40.
Although the full terms of the agreement have not been made public, it is expected that the player will be able to become a partial owner of the club once he retires.
But he explained that Inter Miami's financial model largely relies on commercial agreements and sponsorships to sustain the costs of high-profile players like Messi and others on the team, including Luis Suárez and Rodrigo De Paul.
According to the entrepreneur, sponsorships and commercial agreements account for about 55 percent of the club's revenue, while broadcasting rights contribute just two percent.
“I pay Messi —he’s worth every penny—, but it's between 70 and 80 million dollars a year. In every respect,” Mas stated during a recent interview.
The executive did not provide additional details about the structure of the contract or the exact distribution of the income received by the football player.
Currently, Messi is the second highest-paid player in world football, just behind Cristiano Ronaldo, who has a contract worth over 400 million dollars with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
The investments made in Inter Miami have boosted the club's value in recent years.
The franchise won its first MLS Cup in history last season and celebrated the title at the White House with President Donald Trump.
The growth of the team is also reflected in its economic valuation.
In 2025, the club's value increased by 22 percent to reach 1.45 billion dollars, making it the most valuable team in MLS, according to estimates from the sports industry.
