Lionel Messi receives between 70 and 80 million dollars a year for his contract with Inter Miami, a figure that includes salary, participation rights, and commercial compensations related to his presence at the club.
According to Bloomberg Línea, the figure was confirmed by the team's owner, Jorge Mas, who explained that the agreement with the Argentine footballer includes several economic components beyond the base salary.
Messi, at 38 years old, signed a new three-season contract last year with the Major League Soccer (MLS) club, which would keep him at Inter Miami until he is 40.
Although the full terms of the agreement have not been made public, the player is expected to become a partial owner of the club once he retires.
He explained that Inter Miami's financial model largely depends on commercial agreements and sponsors to sustain the cost of high-profile players like Messi and others on the team, including Luis Suárez and Rodrigo De Paul.
According to the businessman, sponsorships and commercial agreements account for about 55 percent of the club's revenue, while broadcasting rights contribute only two percent.
“I pay Messi —he's worth every penny— but it’s between 70 and 80 million dollars a year. In every aspect,” Mas stated during a recent interview.
The executive did not provide additional details about the structure of the contract or the exact distribution of the revenue that the player receives.
Currently, Messi is the second highest-paid player in world football, just behind Cristiano Ronaldo, who has a contract worth over 400 million dollars with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
The investments made in Inter Miami have boosted the club's value in recent years.
The franchise won its first MLS Cup in history last season and celebrated the title at the White House alongside President Donald Trump.
The growth of the team is also reflected in its economic valuation.
In 2025, the value of the club increased by 22 percent, reaching $1.45 billion, making it the most valuable team in MLS, according to industry estimates.
