In recent hours, the euro and the Freely Convertible Currency (MLC) have partially recovered from the significant decline both currencies experienced the previous day.

The dollar, for its part, remains unchanged at 510 CUP, the record value it reached 10 days ago already.

Furthermore, at 7:00 a.m. (local time) this Monday, the euro rises by 575 CUP, thus recovering 10 of the 15 pesos it lost yesterday, according to the daily report from the independent medium elTOQUE.

MLC also rises, increasing to 400, and abruptly regains the 15 pesos it had lost on Monday.

Exchange Rate Evolution

In a context of sustained inflation, low state salaries, and increasing partial dollarization of the economy, the informal currency market directly affects internal prices and the purchasing power of Cubans.

Exchange rate today 10/03/2026 - 7:22 a.m. in Cuba:

Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP according to elTOQUE: 510 CUP.

Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP according to elTOQUE: 575 CUP.

Exchange rate of MLC to CUP according to elTOQUE: 400 CUP.

The rates published by elTOQUE have become a key indicator for measuring the real evolution of the Cuban peso against foreign currencies, in a context where the official exchange rate (1 USD = 24 CUP for legal entities and 1 USD = 120 CUP in the state foreign exchange market) remains well below the values that apply in daily practice.

The gap between the official and informal rates reflects the ongoing shortage of foreign currency in the state banking system and the high demand for dollars and euros among the population, whether for emigration, importing goods, safeguarding savings, or making purchases in the private sector.

This is complemented by the so-called "floating" exchange rate, which, although presented as a more flexible mechanism since mid-December, remains far from the informal rate and fails to meet the actual demand for foreign currency among the population.
