A group of young Cubans criticized the issuance of new high-denomination banknotes in the country, believing that the measure does not address the structural problems of the economy.

In a video shared by the project Fuera de la Caja, young people reacted to the Central Bank of Cuba's decision to introduce 2,000 and 5,000 peso bills, arguing that it is a superficial response to the inflationary crisis.

"A piece of numbered paper will not solve anyone's life," they stated, questioning the official explanation that the new bills will facilitate cash transactions.

According to their analysis, the issuance of higher denominations reflects the loss of value of the Cuban peso, as the existing bills have become nonfunctional for covering basic expenses.

They also warned that the increase in the money supply could exacerbate inflation by further reducing the purchasing power of the population in a context of scarcity and rising prices of goods.

The young people indicated that the measure responds to a collapsed payment system and that, while it could expedite operations, it does not address the underlying causes of the economic crisis.

They also emphasized that the solution does not lie in printing more money, but rather in structural changes that include greater economic freedom and a transformation of the current model.

The Central Bank justified the introduction of the new banknotes as a way to facilitate transactions and reduce logistical costs amid inflation, which has eroded the real value of the national currency.
