The rapper Offset was shot on Monday night near the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, and was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in the city with non-life-threatening injuries.
A spokesperson for the musician confirmed to the entertainment site TMZ that he was "stable" and under medical observation following the incident, which occurred around 7 p.m. in the valet area of the casino during a fight between two groups of men.
According to reports, Offset had been seen smiling and interacting with fans inside the casino moments before he was shot.
The rapper Lil Tjay (Tione Jayden Merritt, 24 years old) was arrested that same night outside the casino, charged with disturbing the peace with fighting, a misdemeanor.
According to the police report from the Seminole Police Department, Lil Tjay led his group to start a fight, approached aggressively with clenched fists, and began to strike; during the altercation, someone fired and injured Offset.
Lil Tjay was released on a $500 bond and denied shooting at Offset.
A spokesperson for the Seminole Police Department stated that "a suspect has been charged in connection with the incident that occurred on Monday night, and the investigation is ongoing" to identify the shooter and any additional possible accomplices.
This Wednesday, Offset was spotted smoking a cigarette outside the hospital, according to media reports.
Offset, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, is 34 years old and is internationally recognized for being a member of the Atlanta rap trio Migos, along with his cousins Quavo and Takeoff.
The group rose to fame with the viral single "Versace" (2013), remixed by Drake, and achieved number one on the charts with "Bad and Boujee" in 2017.
This shooting in Florida is the second serious armed violence incident directly affecting the members of Migos in less than four years: on November 1, 2022, Takeoff was shot and killed in Houston, Texas, at the age of 28, during a private party, leading to the disbandment of the group.
Offset was also married to the rapper Cardi B, with whom he shares children and went through a highly publicized divorce.
