The United States carried out a new lethal kinetic strike against a vessel operated by suspected Designated Terrorist Organizations in the Eastern Pacific on Monday, resulting in two fatalities and no casualties among U.S. military forces.
The attack was ordered by the commander of the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), General Francis L. Donovan, as part of Operation Southern Lance, and comes just hours after two other similar strikes that resulted in a total of five deaths.
This adds up to three strikes in just three days as part of an increasingly intense military campaign.
SOUTHCOM confirmed the operation through a statement in which it claimed to be exerting total systemic friction on the cartels. Military intelligence confirmed that the vessel was navigating known drug trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and was involved in drug trafficking operations.
In the attacks on Saturday, a survivor was rescued by the Mexican Navy, as reported by SOUTHCOM in its statement.
The actions of Operation 'Southern Spear' have accumulated since its inception 47 attacks against 48 vessels and 163 individuals, according to data gathered on the campaign.
The attacks employ high-speed projectiles, filmed with infrared cameras, a tactic that is part of the fast and brutal method against drug trafficking threats promoted by the Trump administration.
