The Cuban content creator Lumey Guzmán delivered a straightforward message against the government of Miguel Díaz-Canel, in the context of a viral poll regarding whether Cubans want the president to stay or leave.
Guzmán is a self-employed entrepreneur in Cuba and has become known for her critical messages and very direct language, "without mincing words". She captured the feelings of thousands of Cubans with a phrase that became the focal point of the debate.
"We do not owe respect to those who first lacked it towards us. We do not owe empathy to those who destroyed our trust. And we certainly do not owe pity to those who, knowing they caused us so much pain, didn't care at all. This is how the people of Cuba stand right now, who do not care about anything."
Her statements were made in a viral Instagram video. Guzmán was straightforward about her stance, referencing the song "Que se vayan" by Willy Chirino.
I vote for a no, and like in the song by Willy Chirino: Let him go, but let him go far away to hell!
The post has garnered thousands of reactions and comments, with an avalanche of supportive messages that extended the demand beyond Díaz-Canel.
"Canel alone is not enough, the entire Castro family should leave now," was one of the most notable messages on the post of the Cuban self-employed worker.
