Ángel de Fana, one of the most iconic political prisoners on hunger strike in the history of Cuba, stated in an interview with CiberCuba that the Cuban people have the ability to free themselves from the communist dictatorship without the need for a U.S. military intervention.

"I have great confidence, I have great confidence that we Cubans can free ourselves from communist tyranny even without the need for a military intervention from the United States. I continue to believe in my people," he said.

However, to achieve this objective, it is important, in his view, in addition to the pressure exerted by the United States, the fact that Cuba no longer receives oil from Venezuela, and due to this extreme situation, the people have started to protest.

"I believe that the moment may come when the vast majority of the Cuban people will take to the streets to protest, and I believe there is confidence in internal liberation," he added.

To that, he added, the existence of "members of the Armed Forces of Cuba who do not have blood on their hands, who are also waiting for change, and people from the nomenclature who are waiting for change, who already know they have nothing to expect from communism, that this tyranny is a form of slavery, not only for the victims, for the poor, but also for them. I have great confidence that we Cubans can free ourselves from the communist tyranny, even without the need for a military intervention from the United States. I hope there will be no military intervention, that we, the Cubans, can achieve it ourselves. We will achieve it, and I will be there the day before or the day after," he concluded.

In his interview with CiberCuba, Ángel de Fana shared with the audience of this platform his experience in Cuban prisons, where he spent 20 years as a political prisoner, accused of terrorism in 1962. He also explained that he was opposed to a negotiation between the governments of Cuba and the United States for his release and recounted his experiences in the prisons of Boniato, La Cabaña, and Combinado del Este.

The historic plantado also recounted episodes of his friendship with Commander Huber Matos.
