Cuban-American Congressman Carlos Giménez has once again issued one of the strongest warnings against the Cuban regime amid increasing pressure from Washington: its leaders could end up behind bars in the United States, just like Nicolás Maduro.

During an interview with Fox News, Giménez stated that "the leaders of the Cuban regime" could end up meeting the former Venezuelan president "in a New York prison, if they are lucky," referring directly to Maduro's capture on January 3 following an operation authorized by President Donald Trump.

The legislator from Florida made it clear that, although international attention in the United States has recently focused on conflicts in the Middle East, Cuba remains a consistent priority on the White House agenda.

"President Trump is talking more and more about Cuba. We're even involved in a conflict in Iran, but he always, almost always mentions Cuba," he noted.

Giménez warned that time is running out for the Cuban regime and issued a direct message regarding potential negotiations with Washington: “There is a lot, too much time for the regime. It’s better if, please, if there are negotiations, they do so in a serious manner. They know their days are already numbered. It’s better to do it the easy way than the hard way.”

The congressman reinforced his warning by recalling the case of Maduro, who—he said—ignored the options offered to him by the U.S. administration before his capture. “Look at what happened to Nicolás Maduro. President Trump gave him options, he did not take those options. Now he is sitting in a jail in New York,” he stated.

It is not the first time Giménez has raised the stakes against Havana. In recent months, he has insisted that the Cuban regime is facing a crucial moment. In April, he even claimed that the island's freedom is near and that he hopes to celebrate the upcoming New Year in Havana, a message that resonated with sectors of the exile community who see the current situation as an opportunity for change.

He has also publicly defended the "maximum pressure" policy promoted by the Trump administration, and the tightening of conditions for any negotiations. In this context, he has even suggested responding harshly to statements from Miguel Díaz-Canel, stating that the revolution "needs to disappear" after decades of crisis and deterioration on the island.

The congressman's new statements come at a particularly sensitive time. Recent reports indicate that Washington has given the Cuban regime a two-week deadline to release high-profile political prisoners, while the Pentagon intensifies its planning for possible scenarios in the event of an intervention.

For many Cubans, both inside and outside the island, Giménez's message not only sounds like a political warning but also reflects a growing tension whose outcome remains uncertain, yet is increasingly imminent.
