A Cuban known on TikTok as @dr.aloma published a video on March 12 in which she directly criticizes compatriots who claim to be unaware of or uninterested in Cuban politics, labeling that stance as hypocritical and incompatible with the reality faced by the people on the island.
"I'll be here for a moment, as always, to put a stop to all the stupid Cubans living in this land," says the content creator, before dismantling the argument of those who hide behind political ignorance.
"Oh, I don't know anything about Cuba's politics, nor do I want to investigate. My love, you don't know anything about Cuba's politics, but you've absorbed all the gossip from the entire reporting republic," imitating @dr.aloma towards those who use that excuse, and then concluding: "It's not that you can't investigate; it's that you can't even read. There are people who are one-neuron thinkers."
The Cuban argues that it is not necessary to study political science to understand what is happening on the island; one only needs to look around.
"There are children who go to bed without eating, get up without breakfast, and go to a school forced to reason through a story that was only written in books for their convenience," it points out in the one minute and 44 seconds video.
It also evokes "a mother who cries, a political prisoner for simply thinking the truth is no different," and reproduces the messages received from relatives in Cuba: "Oh, it's been ten days since I've had electricity, I had to cook with coal and the bag costs three thousand pesos."
That reality described by @dr.aloma is documented. In 2026, Cuba is experiencing its worst crisis in decades: the energy deficit exceeds 1,850 megawatts, 96.91% of the population has lost adequate access to food due to inflation, and the average salaries of between 5,000 and 6,000 pesos are equivalent to about 13 dollars per month at the informal exchange rate.
Political repression shows no signs of abating. Prisoners Defenders reported 1,250 political and conscience prisoners in Cuba as of the end of March 2026, including 44 new arrests in just that month.
The harshest message from @dr.aloma is directed at the emigrants who, once outside the island, turn their backs on their people.
"Being Cuban, my love, doesn't mean coming and emigrating and forgetting your roots and your people, it means not having Alzheimer's and remembering", claims the creator.
And it concludes with a definition that leaves no room for ambiguity: "Being Cuban, my love, is for those who have huge balls, and no matter where they are, they never forget their people or the suffering of their nation."
The stance of "I don't want to know about politics" among Cubans abroad is not new. The reggaeton artist El Micha publicly expressed it in March 2020 with a phrase that stirred controversy in Miami: "politics tastes like shit".
The video by @dr.aloma concludes with a slogan that summarizes his entire argument: "Long live a free Cuba!"
