King Carlos III and Queen Camilla began their state visit to the United States on Monday with an official reception at the White House hosted by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, amid a complex international context and focusing on the bilateral relationship between London and Washington.

The arrival of the British monarchs marks the first state visit from the United Kingdom to the U.S. since 2007, when Queen Elizabeth II traveled during the presidency of George W. Bush, as noted in the special coverage by BBC.

On this occasion, the trip takes place amid tensions between both countries, particularly due to differences regarding the conflict in Iran and recent trade disputes driven by the U.S. administration.

The reception at the White House was laden with protocol symbolism. Carlos III and Trump posed together for the press on a red carpet before entering the building, in a gesture of cordiality that contrasts with recent political frictions.

Subsequently, both delegations shared a private tea accompanied by traditional appetizers, in a relaxed atmosphere that aimed to strengthen the historical ties between both nations.

During the day, the leaders also toured the gardens of the White House, including a visit to the beehives located on the grounds, an activity of a more informal nature that helped to project an image of closeness between the parties.

After their visit to the presidential residence, the king and queen proceeded to the British embassy in Washington, where they attended a reception with hundreds of guests, including officials from the Trump administration, public figures, and representatives from various sectors. The event served as a space for diplomatic exchange in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Alongside the official commitments, Queen Camilla held meetings with organizations that fight against domestic and gender violence, a cause she has actively supported in recent years. Her participation in these activities added a social component to the visit, beyond the strictly political agenda.

The journey, however, is not without its challenges. Analysts agree that this is one of the most delicate diplomatic moments of Charles III's reign, forced to balance his institutional role with the existing tensions between the British government and the Trump administration. Despite this, the royal circle emphasizes the importance of maintaining strategic cooperation and historical ties.

Security has been another key element of this visit. U.S. authorities strengthened protocols following a recent shooting that occurred in Washington during an event attended by President Trump, which has influenced part of the logistics and planning of the activities.

In the coming days, Carlos III is expected to deliver a speech before the United States Congress, in which he will address current global challenges and call for unity among historical allies. According to diplomatic sources, the monarch will emphasize the importance of cooperation in defending democratic values, even amidst disagreements.

Although media coverage in the United States has been relatively discreet, there is an expectation within political circles that this visit will help ease tensions and open a new chapter in bilateral relations.

For now, the first day has been marked by gestures of courtesy, diplomatic caution, and a clear attempt to keep communication channels open between two traditional partners.
