Cuban resident in the U.S. says he is a communist and dares them to take away his Green Card

A Cuban resident in the United States posted a challenging video on Facebook in which he openly declares himself a communist while showing his permanent residency card and dares the immigration authorities to revoke it and deport him.

The man, identified as Roberto García Cabrejas, recorded a 45-second clip in which he openly lists his ideological affiliations: "Well, you know that I am a communist, you know that I am a socialist, you know that I am fidelista, you know that I am a humanist, and everything that ends with -ist."

With the Green Card in hand in front of the camera, he issued his direct challenge: "This is my green card. Now, if you have the guts, take it away from me. If you have the guts, deport me. Here I am. And wherever you want, to the Congo, to Greenland, to Zimbabwe."

The video concluded with a phrase that García Cabrejas himself presented as a reflection: "Remember that life is not a problem, it is a solution. Goodbye, fish."

The challenge arises at a time of unprecedented tightening of U.S. immigration policy under the Trump administration, which in April 2026 launched a campaign by the Department of Justice to denaturalize 384 naturalized citizens, with 39 active federal prosecutors' offices across the country.

Section 212(a)(3)(D) of the Immigration and Nationality Act states that any immigrant who is or has been a member of the Communist Party or another totalitarian party is inadmissible for permanent residence in the United States.

However, the revocation of an already granted Green Card is not automatic; it requires formal deportation procedures under the same law, which involves a legal process with safeguards.

The Secretary of State Marco Rubio has publicly warned that "coming to the United States with a visa is a privilege, not a right" and that even holders of permanent residence can be deported if their involvement in activities contrary to national security is discovered.

The case contrasts with the real consequences that other Cubans have faced due to ties to communism. The former Cuban judge Juana Orquídea Acanda Rodríguez was deported on April 13, 2025, after being detained at Miami Airport for concealing her membership in the Communist Party of Cuba and her three decades of service as a judicial official for the regime.

Acanda Rodríguez had been honored on Cuban television for her loyalty to the revolution less than a year and a half before her deportation, and faced charges of immigration fraud and false documentation.

During that same period, another alleged Cuban repressor self-deported after a decade in the United States due to the risk of prosecution, following the example of Eduardo Velázquez Infante, who left the country on April 18, 2025, after being identified by the Cuban exile community.

The Cuban-American congressman Carlos Giménez has warned that at least 100 regime repressors from Cuba have settled in the U.S. in recent years, and he has led efforts to identify and deport them.

The video by Garcia Cabrejas, which has garnered over 51,000 views and nearly 900 comments, arrives at a time when the U.S. warns those who have approved visas or residency that the government continually verifies compliance with immigration laws and that those who do not adhere to them will face revocation of their status and deportation.
