The informal currency market in Cuba opened this Monday with increases in the three benchmark currencies, according to data from elTOQUE.

The dollar reaches 536 Cuban pesos (CUP), the euro hits 615 CUP, and the MLC rises to 420 CUP.

The day reinforces an upward trend that shows no signs of slowing down.

The dollar rises by one peso compared to Sunday, the euro is up five pesos, and the MLC stands out with the largest jump of the day, increasing by 20 pesos after having fallen to 400 CUP yesterday.

The euro thus chains a new historic high, just days after it reached 610 CUP on Saturday, marking a second consecutive record in 48 hours. The European currency broke the psychological barrier of 600 CUP for the first time on April 19, and since then it has continued to rise.

The dollar, for its part, exceeded its historical peak of 535 CUP on Sunday, a figure that had already surpassed the maximum projection of the Observatory of Currencies and Finance of Cuba (OMFi), which estimated a ceiling of 533 CUP for the end of April.

Among the structural factors explaining the continuous depreciation of the Cuban peso are the energy crisis caused by the interruption of Venezuelan oil shipments and the suspension of supplies from Mexico since January 2026, the decline in tourism, the shortage of foreign currency in the banking system, and excessive money issuance related to the fiscal deficit.
