The informal foreign exchange market in Cuba is exerting strong pressure on the Cuban peso this Thursday.

The US dollar opened with a quotation of 545 CUP, according to the daily monitoring by elTOQUE, amidst ongoing inflation and the shortage of foreign currency on the Island.

The euro is the most expensive currency in the informal market and is currently trading at 625 CUP. The European currency continues to gain ground among those looking to protect their savings against the devaluation of the Cuban peso.

On its part, the MLC price dropped this Thursday. Yesterday, it was trading at 432.5 CUP but now it stands at 430 CUP, well below the dollar and the euro in informal transactions within the country.
