The situation in Cuba is heated, with strong pressures from the United States and a severe internal crisis in the country, but the Prime Minister does not intend to stop celebrating the workers in tourism, and on this occasion, he spent the day at a campground holding a meeting.
Manuel Marrero Cruz commented on Wednesday about his day of celebrations for the 45th anniversary of Campismo Popular at the Los Cocos facility in the province of Mayabeque.
He posted a thread of five tweets from the event, in which he praised Fidel Castro as the "undisputed precursor of camping in Cuba" and stated that the recreational activity "has allowed more than 40 million Cubans to enjoy."
He also emphasized "the attention provided by Raúl Castro to the development of this activity" and assured that Campismo will be available "to welcome children, young people, and Cuban families in the summer."
Marrero indirectly acknowledged the situation by mentioning "the devastating effects of the energy blockade and U.S. sanctions." Since his visit to the Campismo, he reaffirmed "the defense of the Homeland as the top priority."
It is not the first time that the Prime Minister has generated ironic reactions due to the gap between his speech and reality. On May 19, his statements on power outages triggered a wave of criticism on social media.
On May 7, he called Fidel Castro to discuss the need to “emancipate ourselves through our own efforts” without announcing any structural reforms.
The camping event was celebrated with live music, awards for workers, and group photos under palm trees, while Cubans described reaching their limit due to power outages on the same day.
Marrero concluded his thread with a phrase that encapsulates the official stance of the regime: "The more sanctions, the more alternatives we will implement."
In the comments, a Cuban pointed out: "Popular camping for the people and dollar hotels for your enrichment. You're a shameless fatso."
