An albino buffalo weighing nearly 700 kilograms became the most unusual attraction in Bangladesh after its owner named it "Donald Trump" due to its striking blonde mane, which thousands of people compare to the characteristic hairstyle of the American president.
The animal is located on a farm in Narayanganj, on the outskirts of Dhaka, and belongs to the farmer Zia Uddin Mridha. The owner explained to AFP that it was his younger brother who chose the name.
"My brother chose that name because of the extraordinary fur of the buffalo," said the man, expressing his surprise at how his pet has become a global celebrity.
Images of the buffalo began circulating on social media and quickly sparked a phenomenon: families, influencers, curious onlookers, and children traveled from various districts across the country to photograph themselves with the impressive animal. Some visitors even arrived by boat, traveling for over an hour just to see it in person.
Among them was Faisal Ahmed, a 30-year-old businessman who traveled with family and friends and did not hide his astonishment: “The truth is there are similarities between the buffalo and President Donald Trump,” he commented with laughter after managing to take a picture with the animal.
The buffalo's fame had practical consequences for the farm: the caretakers bathe it four times a day and meticulously brush its light fur before the arrival of visitors.
Mridha summed it up with humor: "The only luxury he enjoys is taking a shower four times a day."
However, the constant influx of visitors caused the animal to lose weight, which led the farm to restrict access, although visitors continue to arrive.
Officials from the Department of Livestock Services of Bangladesh explained that albino buffaloes are extremely rare in the region, as their white or pink color is due to the absence of melanin, the pigment responsible for the color of skin, hair, and eyes.
Despite its fame, the animal's fate is already sealed: it will be sacrificed during the Eid al-Adha, an Islamic festival set for May 27 in Bangladesh, which commemorates the prophet Ibrahim's willingness to obey God. During this time, believers sacrifice animals and distribute the meat among family members and those in need.
According to sources like NDTV, the buffalo has already been sold for ritual sacrifice, with an estimated value of about 385,000 Bangladeshi takas, equivalent to approximately 3,500 dollars.
In Bangladesh, a predominantly Muslim country with over 170 million inhabitants, the sacrifice of more than 12 million animals is expected during this year's celebration.
Mridha himself sadly acknowledged that it will be difficult to say goodbye to the animal: "I will miss Donald Trump, but that is the essence of Eid al-Adha: to make a sacrifice."
