The family of Alelí Pérez Alfonso an urgent call on social media this Tuesday to locate her, after the woman left her home last Friday heading to the Jóvenes de Occidente prison and has not been heard from since.
Her sister Arizay Pérez posted the call on Facebook with a photograph of Alelí and a copy of her identity card.
"I'm looking for my sister, she left the house on Friday heading to the Jóvenes de Occidente prison and hasn't returned. Please, if you have any news, call 51315348 or 47501234. Please help me share this," she wrote.
Alelí Pérez Alfonso is 42 years old; she was born on April 14, 1984, in Güines, former province of Havana and now Mayabeque, and she resides at 3224 Avenue 35, between 32nd and 34th streets, in the municipality of Melena del Sur, also in Mayabeque.
She is 163 cm tall and weighs 49 kg, according to her identification document.
The reason for their visit to the penitentiary has not been publicly specified, although the context suggests that they were there to visit a family member or acquaintance incarcerated there.
Alelí's disappearance occurs in a context where the families of inmates in Cuba routinely face a lack of transparency from the prison authorities: prolonged isolation, transfers without notice, and denial of visits are documented practices.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Alelí Pérez Alfonso can contact her family at the numbers 51315348 and 47501234.
