Descemer Bueno had a spontaneous and moving encounter in the streets of Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, when he came across a fellow Cuban named Fernando who was performing as a street musician and knew one of his songs.
The artist shared the moment on his Facebook account, where he wrote: "From Galicia and the beautiful city of Santiago de Compostela, I send you this moment where I meet a fellow Cuban, Fernando, who knows one of my songs, and I thank God for moments like this."
The song they improvised together was "Ser de Sol," a track from the album Bueno (2012), recorded in collaboration with Israel Rojas, the vocalist of the Cuban duo Buena Fe.
The lyrics of that song speak of love, betrayal, and disappointment, with poetic imagery of light and the sea: "I never doubted you, only my light to reach you / and I dressed in sunlight, went out to find you."
At the end of the performance, Fernando turned to Descemer with words full of emotion: "Thank you, thank you. It was something improvised there. A pleasure to play with the master."
The video garnered over 23,000 views, with hundreds of comments from followers moved by the encounter.
This is not the first time Descemer Bueno has made a gesture like this with Cuban musicians performing on the streets of Spain.
On May 8, he published another video from Málaga in which he accompanied compatriots who are earning a living playing on the sidewalk, and asked the audience to support them, describing them as individuals who were "making a living with dignity."
Descemer is one of the most prominent figures in the Cuban artistic diaspora and is one of the co-authors of "Patria y Vida" (2021), an anthem of protest against the Cuban regime that won two Latin Grammys that year.
The meeting in Santiago de Compostela reflects the everyday reality of many Cuban musicians who have emigrated and find on the streets of Spanish cities their main stage and means of livelihood, and who occasionally receive an unexpected visit from one of the greats.
