Three companies donated food and cleaning products to the senior dining hall SAF "El Rampeño", located in Vedado, Havana, according to what was shared on Facebook by Pedro Lizardo Garcés Escalona, president of the Rampa People's Council and delegate of District 6 in the Plaza de la Revolución municipality.

The donations came from three different entities: the company «PRODANCO» contributed 700 cans of sardines in tomato sauce and 5,000 packages of sweet cookies; the company «SOMEC» delivered liquid detergent and vinegar; and the agricultural products point of sale «EIVANA» donated plantains, sweet potatoes, leeks, and packages of soda.

Garcés Escalona publicly thanked the donors under the slogan "Neighborhood People" and wrote: "In difficult times, great men and women are born, truly great ones. People who think beyond their own fortune and look with love at those in need."

The delegate also expressed: "Thank you, brothers and sisters. On my behalf and on behalf of everyone who receives your donations, I wish you health and prosperity for your enterprises and businesses."

The SAF "El Rampeño" is part of the Family Assistance System, a state program created in 1998 to ensure food for seniors, people with disabilities, and vulnerable social cases without resources or family support.

The establishment, located on J Street between Línea and 15, has the capacity to accommodate 53 people and benefits more than fifty elderly Cubans in Vedado.

The donation occurs in the context of a severe food crisis that particularly affects elderly Cubans. In March 2026, the Cuban state itself admitted that it does not have enough budget to support all vulnerable individuals and that the dining facilities for the elderly increasingly rely on private donations.

Data from September 2025 indicated that 8 out of 10 Cubans over the age of 61 have stopped having breakfast, lunch, or dinner due to a lack of money or food, and that 39% of retirees received the minimum pension of 1,528 Cuban pesos per month, which is insufficient to cover basic needs.

A survey from May 2025 indicated that 99% of retired Cubans do not meet their basic needs for food, housing, and medicine, while hunger worsens on the island with one in four Cubans going to bed without dinner.

Nationwide, the SAF served approximately 67,000 people in more than 1,448 establishments by mid-2025, according to data from the Ministry of Domestic Trade.

Garcés Escalona concluded his publication with a message that encapsulates the spirit of the initiative: "Neighborhood People: With everyone and for the good of all, let’s strive for more! It’s not just a slogan. These are facts."
