Germany enters the with a historical debt that weighs heavier than any opponent: two consecutive eliminations in the group stage, an unprecedented outcome for a national team that won the title in Brazil 2014 and now needs to show that the cycle of failures is behind it.

After the debacle of Russia 2018 —where they finished last in their group as defending champions— and the repetition of the humiliation in Qatar 2022, the Mannschaft approaches the 2026 FIFA World Cup as the strong favorite in their group, but with no room for complacency.

The Group E is completed by Côte d'Ivoire, Ecuador, and Curaçao, a quartet that on paper seems manageable for the Germans, but conceals real threats from two of their three opponents.

Under the leadership of Julian Nagelsmann, Germany announces a roster of 26 players that blends experience and youth: Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, and Leroy Sané spearhead the attack, while the return of Manuel Neuer as goalkeeper adds a symbolic element to the rebuilding project.

The market value of the German national team is around 998 million euros, making it the most valuable in the group, whose total amounts to 1.931 billion euros.

The calendar places Germany debuting against Curaçao on June 14, the most accessible opponent in the group and a complete debutant in World Cups, with only a 9% chance of advancing according to ESPN.

The second match, on June 20 against Ivory Coast, represents the first real test: the African team is physical and competitive, with individual talent and a 79% chance of qualifying, making them an opponent not to be underestimated.

The conclusion of the group stage on June 25 against Ecuador could determine the group's leadership. The Ecuadorians, with recent World Cup experience following their participation in Qatar 2022, have a 92% chance of advancing according to ESPN, making them the most serious contender for the Mannschaft.

The Ecuadorian goalkeeper Hernán Galíndez, who was already at Qatar 2022, summed up the maturity of his national team with a straightforward statement: "Today we know what it means to play in a World Cup."

The context of the tournament also plays in favor of Germany: the 2026 World Cup is the first with , which increases the number of qualifiers per group and theoretically reduces the risk of another early elimination. However, the two consecutive failures have shown that no scenario guarantees automatic qualification for the Mannschaft.

Germany last became world champion 12 years ago. Group E, with its real threats and its harmless debutant, is the first step on a path that the German team cannot afford to lose again.
