The Central University "Marta Abreu" of Las Villas (UCLV) publicly expressed its sorrow over the passing of Dr. C. Alina Hereira Díaz, a Full Professor and founder of the Center for Applied Chemistry Studies (CEQA) at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy of that institution, located in Santa Clara, Villa Clara.

The announcement was posted on the official UCLV social media through an institutional condolence card, without revealing the cause or the exact date of the passing.

The magazine Juventud Técnica also joined in mourning with a message of condolences for her passing, highlighting that "she dedicated her life to teaching and research."

Hereira Díaz was responsible for the course on Spectroscopy in the Bachelor's programs in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Chemistry, "transmitting knowledge and values to generations of undergraduate and graduate students," according to the publication Juventud Técnica.

In the later years of his career, he linked his research to CIDEM (Center for Research and Development of Structures and Materials at UCLV), "contributing with dedication and scientific rigor to the advancement of applied chemistry in Cuba," according to the institutional note from the university.

The CEQA, an institution she helped establish, was created on April 1, 1989 under the name Center for Explosives Studies, by agreement between the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of Higher Education, and adopted its current name in 2004, the year it formally became part of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy.

Its mission encompasses research in technological and environmental risk, the management of toxic waste, and the provision of scientific-technical services for chemical and physicochemical analysis.

The death of Dr. Hereira Díaz adds to other recent passings of Cuban academic figures. Among them are a professor from the University of Pinar del Río who passed away in May and a young university teacher from Holguín, whose death caused shock in March.

The UCLV concluded its message with a phrase that captures the sentiment of the entire university community: "His academic and human legacy will remain in the memory of students, colleagues, and the entire university community."
