Various opposition organizations and Cuban civil society demanded justice and clarification of the circumstances surrounding the death of Jesús Alberto Martínez Fernández, the 26-year-old who passed away this week in Palma Soriano, Santiago de Cuba.

The death of the young man has prompted numerous expressions of solidarity with his family, widely known for their opposition activism in the eastern region.

Her mother, Dénia Fernández Rey, is a former member of the Damas de Blanco, the director of the Latin American Federation of Rural Women (FLAMUR) in Santiago de Cuba, and the coordinator of the Women’s Network of Cuba in the eastern region.

His father, Alberto Martínez, is identified by opposition organizations as the director of the Republican Party of Cuba.

In a statement published on social media, the Women's Network of Cuba expressed its "deepest sorrow and outrage" over the death of Martínez Fernández, whom it identified as the leader of the opposition movement Impacto Juvenil.

"We extend our most supportive embrace and our deepest condolences to his parents, Dénia Fernández Rey and Alberto Martínez," stated the organization, which also linked the case to the deterioration of public safety on the Island and demanded that the facts be clarified.

For its part, FLAMUR expressed its "deep sorrow and shock" over what it described as a "vile murder," while calling for measures to address the increasing violence and crime in Cuba.

"We cannot remain silent in the face of such barbarity. Crime and criminality are taking lives and sowing pain in Cuban families," stated the organization in a public declaration.

The Council for Democratic Transition in Cuba conveyed its condolences to the family of the young man and expressed its shock at the news.

Reactions also multiplied on social media, where activists, dissenters, and residents of Palma Soriano shared messages of support for the family and demanded justice.

According to reports from family, friends, and activists, Jesús Alberto Martínez Fernández died after being injured in a violent incident that occurred near the Galaxy Bar, also known as El Villar.

So far, the Cuban authorities have not provided a detailed official account of what happened or the progress of the investigations.

In the midst of her mourning, Dénia Fernández Rey also reported alleged irregularities during the medical care received by her son and claimed to have been threatened by police officers and State Security during the funeral proceedings. These accusations have not been independently verified.

The lack of official information regarding the case has fueled demands from family members, activists, and civil organizations, who insist on the need for a transparent investigation to clarify what happened and determine accountability.
