The Cuban singer-songwriter Lenier Mesa issued a strong public message against Jacob Forever after the reggaeton artist scheduled a concert in the same city and on the same day as him, an action that Lenier deemed unprofessional and disrespectful.
The message was recorded in a video that has gone viral on Instagram, where Lenier, clearly upset, explained the situation straightforwardly when asked about the coincidence in the dates. Lenier referred to Jacob Forever and pointedly remarked, "I believe that, first and foremost, all of this reflects a lack of professionalism and respect from these Cuban artists, who always engage in the same issues. Jacob knows that it is disrespectful, and he doesn't like it when these things happen to him."
The composer did not limit himself to criticism and took the opportunity to assert his financial position within the music industry: "Sitting at home, without going out to sing anywhere, writing, I earn more money than all of them combined. I can pay for their cars, their houses, still together," he stated, emphasizing that his income as a songwriter exceeds that of artists who rely on live performances.
This is not the first time Lenier Mesa has expressed distance from Jacob Forever. In October 2024, he publicly confessed that he no longer had friendship or communication with him, although he clarified that he did not wish him any harm. In January 2025, he reiterated that he would not collaborate with Jacob Forever "for now" due to personal differences and "things poorly done."
The distancing contrasts with the close relationship they maintained between 2017 and 2020, when they recorded songs together like "El Beso" and the remix of "Qué nochecita". In 2018, ASCAP awarded Jacob Forever and Lenier Mesa alongside DJ Roumi for their collaborative work, and that same year Lenier publicly described his friendship with Jacob as “increasingly strong and true”.
In a call with Chisme con flow, Lenier Mesa once again addressed the controversy surrounding his statements and said: "I don’t know if it’s a matter of promoters or artists, but how many days are there in a month? The Cuban music market isn’t good right now because people aren’t going out to shows. There are plenty of days to organize a concert, yet they scheduled it on the same day as mine. My date was announced 15 days earlier, on social media and everywhere. Jacob knows that those things shouldn’t be done because he doesn’t like it when it happens to him."
So far, Jacob Forever has not publicly responded to Lenier's message.
