The mother of Cuban comedian Eduardo "Eddy" Ceballos reported on Wednesday that her son was physically assaulted at the location where he is being held, and she claimed that the espionage allegations made by the Military Prosecutor's Office are losing their basis.
Marieta Pérez made the complaint public through , where she expressed her concern for her son's physical safety and reported what she considers an escalation of abuses against her.
"They have attacked Eddy at the place where he is. It is no longer enough to accuse him, to put him behind bars with unfounded arguments; now they want to hurt him, beat him, kill him..." he wrote.
According to the mother of the creator of Despingovery Channel, the aggression occurs at times when the case has begun to receive greater public attention both inside and outside of Cuba.
"As the case becomes more high-profile and the evidence that the Military Prosecutor's Office claims to have to accuse Eddy of espionage crumbles, other resources are being utilized," he stated.
Pérez concluded his message with a direct accusation against the authorities.
"I denounce such arbitrariness, such shamelessness. This mother is standing and everyone who does not turn a blind eye to injustice will know it."
Ceballos was arrested on June 1st in the Havana municipality of Diez de Octubre, just a few days after he published a video exploring an abandoned military facility. The footage showcased Soviet missiles, radars, and other structures associated with the Cold War, and was presented by the creator himself as "the most warlike chapter" of his popular channel.
According to the testimony of his relatives, during the operation, the agents did not allow him to return to his home or say goodbye to his wife Daniela and their four-year-old daughter.
Before his arrest, the comedian had recorded a message anticipating that possibility.
"If you are watching this video, it unfortunately means that I have been imprisoned, separated from my home, my family, and my daughter," he expressed.
Authorities initially informed the family that he would be prosecuted for an alleged "invasion of military property." However, the legal organization Cubalex pointed out that this crime does not exist in current Cuban criminal legislation.
Subsequently, the case evolved into an accusation of "revealing secrets concerning State Security," an offense that could be prosecuted under military jurisdiction and that carries penalties of up to 30 years in prison.
Both Cubalex and lawyer Alain Santana have questioned the legal basis of the charges filed against the content creator, arguing that the authorities have handled charges that are controversial within the framework of Cuban law.
The detention of Ceballos has generated a broad wave of solidarity. His channel, Despingovery Channel, gained considerable popularity since 2025 due to its satires inspired by nature documentaries, where he humorously depicted urban decay, blackouts, and other everyday issues in Cuba.
The case has transcended the island's borders and has been picked up by international media, as well as leading to support campaigns on social media under the slogan "Free Eddy."
In recent days, family members and close friends have intensified their complaints regarding the situation of the comedian. His father also recently offered a public testimony detailing the emotional impact that incarceration had on both of them.
According to him, one of the images that struck him the most was seeing his son embarrassed by receiving his visit behind bars, an experience he described as one of the most painful of his life.
