The Brigadier General Alcibíades Wilmer Pérez Rivero, former head of the Military Intelligence Directorate of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), passed away this Friday, according to an official statement from the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR) read on the National Television News.
The statement did not specify either the age of the deceased or the cause of death, which is a common practice of the Cuban regime when it comes to the passing of high-ranking military figures.

A career of nearly five decades in the FAR
According to the official statement, Pérez Rivero entered the FAR in 1979 as a cadet at the José Martí Military Technical Institute, where he graduated as a radioelectronic engineer "with excellent academic results," states the text signed by the MINFAR.
Throughout his career, he rose from platoon leader to commanding electronic reconnaissance battalions, and served as a professor in the specialty at the General Máximo Gómez Academy of the FAR.
He also held positions as a military intelligence officer and electronic warfare specialist, deputy chief and chief of the analysis and information department, and head of the military intelligence section in the Western Army, before becoming deputy chief of the Military Intelligence Directorate.
"Considering his performance, professionalism, and extensive experience, he was promoted to head of the Military Intelligence Directorate of the Revolutionary Armed Forces," the statement indicates, describing the highest position he reached in his career.
Training and decorations
The MINFAR note emphasizes that the general "maintained a constant concern for self-improvement, graduating from the joint operational strategic command and staff course at the General Máximo Gómez FAR Academy and as a student of the National Defense College, completing both with outstanding results."
Among the decorations he received are the Ignacio Agramonte medals of first, second, and third class, the Combative Brotherhood medal, and commemorative medals for the anniversary of the FAR and for 10, 15, and 20 years of service.
The statement also indicates that "the accumulated merits earned him the status of a member of the Communist Party of Cuba."
Military honors on Monday at the FAR Pantheon
The general's body was cremated after his passing.
Her ashes will be interred this Monday, July 6, at 10 in the morning, in the Pantheon of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, located in the Colón Necropolis in Havana, where she will be honored with military ceremonies.
The same protocol - cremation and the deposition of ashes with military honors in that mausoleum - was applied at the funeral of the Major General Claro Orlando Almaguel Vidal, who passed away in January of this year.
A military dome that tapers
The passing of Pérez Rivero adds to a series of deaths of high-ranking military officials and historical figures of the Cuban regime so far in 2026.
In January, Brigadier General José Luis Mesa Delgado, 88 years old, and Major General Almaguel Vidal, 81, passed away.
In May, Rear Admiral Roberto Eduardo González Luaces passed away in Cienfuegos.
Additionally, on June 21, the historical commander Ramiro Valdés Menéndez passed away at the age of 94. He was the founder of the Ministry of Interior (MININT).
This pattern of deaths reflects the rapid aging of the Cuban military leadership, a generation that has no visible successor on the horizon.
